Far-left groups are hosting a conference on how to tear down statues

Violent leftist mobs recently tore down the controversial “Silent Sam” statue at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Now many of the organizations who were involved with planning and executing that protest are hosting a two day conference in the neighboring city of Durham called “How to Topple a Statue, How to Tear Down a Wall”. Defend Durham, a far-left activist organization that supports the violent #AbolishICE movement and also works closely with local antifa groups is organizing this event.

According to the event description, this conference will be centered around workshops, political discussion, and actions regarding opposition to perceived white supremacy:

Join us for workshops, political discussions, and actions to commemorate the one year anniversary of the righteous fightback in Charlottesville, VA against white supremacists and the people’s toppling of a confederate monument in Durham, NC.

Additionally, they will be using this conference to organize for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the abolition of all police departments, and the abolition of all prisons:

Black August provides us all with a mandate to connect these struggles, to raise the banner which calls for the abolition of ICE, police, and prisons; and to build a different world that is built with the power of the people, the power of the workers, and the power of all oppressed people.

Their list of organization who have endorsed the conference include multiple radical left-wing organization but most notably the Marxist-Leninist groups, Workers World Party, and Party for Socialism and Liberation:

Initial conference endorsements include (list still in formation):

Defend Durham
Stop Killing Us (SKU)
Comite de Accion Popular (Raleigh)
Fighting for Im/Migrants and Refugees Everywhere (FIRE)
Movement to End Racism and Islamophobia (MERI)
Raise Up for $15
Take Em Down Jax
NC Environmental Justice Network
Samidoun: Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network
North Carolina Green Party
Triangle SURJ
Coalition for Health Care of NC
Take Em Down Nola
National Black Conference
NC National Lawyers Guild
Silent Sam Sit-In
Workers World Party
People’s Revolutionary United Collective (Charlotte)
Party for Socialism and Liberation
Anna Malinowski, Charlottesville SURJ
Maya Little, Chapel Hill defendant in Silent Sam case

This type of “activism” by the far-left has been going on since Mao’s cultural revolution but has recently escalated in the Unites States. Last year, one antifa organization launched a nationwide campaign to destroy Christopher Columbus statues that resulted in multiple statues being defaced and destroyed.

“Silent Sam” was the most recent historical statue to fall victim to the far-left but he most certainly will not be the last.
